Einkorn Sourdough Starter…getting started
In this video I’ll explain how to do the first week of your Einkorn Sourdough Starter. You will want to keep going for about 4-6 weeks before you can bake with your starter.
Day 1 Morning: Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Day 1 Eveneing (about 12 hours later): Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Day 2 Morning: Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Day 2 Evening (12 hours-ish later): Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Day 3 Morning: Stir your starter and then pour half in a jar as a discard. Cover and Refrigerate the discard jar (you can find recipes for discards online) Then…Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Day 3 Evening (12 hours-ish later): Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Day 4 Morning: Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Day 4 Evening (12 hours-ish later): Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Day 5 Morning: Stir your starter down, grab your discard jar from the fridge and pour half of your starter into the discard jar, cover your discard jar and refrigerate. Then… Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Day 5 Evening (12ish hours later): Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Day 6 Morning: Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Day 6 Evening: Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Day 7 Morning: Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Day 7 Evening: Add 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. of flour, 1/4 cup of filtered water to jar and stir, cover, place in room temperature or slightly warmer place.
Repeat for a total of 4-6 weeks until your starter has doubled in size.
