This is the heart-warming moment officers in Nottinghamshire reward a once-troubled teen on the verge of imprisonment who turned his life around and became an inspiration.

Jahlil Kumar, 15, was presented with the Lyrico Steede Award for his transforming his life after being on the wrong side of the law.

Previously involved with the wrong crowd and facing serious allegations, Jahlil met his child youth support worker, Stephen, who helped him address anger issues, improve communication skills, and refocus on his education.

Jahlil is now studying for his GCSEs and aims to work in electrical installation and property development.

The Lyrico Steede Award, named after a teenager who was tragically murdered in 2018, recognises young people who have overcome involvement in gangs, knife crime, or other criminal activities and now serve as inspirations to others.

The award is part of Nottinghamshire Police's Live Our Best Life Awards, which celebrate young people across the county for their talents, achievements, and resilience.
