Soul Gems with Mark Borax: Placeholders

The idea of placeholders comes from Paul McCartney. McCartney once dreamed a haunting melody that he was certain came from his subconscious remembering of some old jazz tune. He called friends to see where the melody had come from. No one knew. In order to remember this melody so he could write lyrics, he made up nonsense words about scrambled eggs. He needed a phrase with the right meter to hold the place of what would become the lyrics to “Yesterday.”

Writing my latest book was more of a Shamanic initiation, a recording of cosmic placeholders for what my sub- and supra-consciousness knew long before I could find the eventual words.

What placeholders do you see in your life?
