Confederate South Escaped to Brazil 🇧🇷 #shorts

Faust Checho dives into history when the Confederate South escaped to Brazil in the mid-1860s. Following their loss in the Civil War, the Confederates decided they didn't want to live in a country that denied them their rights to slavery, so they decided to move.

Dom Pedro II who was the emperor of Brazil and a supporter of the Confederacy throughout the Civil War took this moment to draw in more white settlers to his country. He offered the Confederates subsidized land and travel which brought more than 8000 Confederate soldiers to live in Brazil.

They didn't stay long as Brazil would abolish slavery in 1888, but some of them remained and their ancestors survive to this day keeping the "Confederdo" culture alive.
