Galatians 09, Walk by the Spirit 5:16-26

Good afternoon,

This lesson is the climax of Galatians. Paul has been aiming all his guns at this point. He wants the Galatians to be free from legalism and licentiousness. The way is to walk by the Spirit. We want to talk about what this means. The Spirit was not something OT believers had. Some of them had the Spirit on a temporary basis for prophesying, serving as a priest, or as king, but He could be taken from them (David prayed, "take not your Holy Spirit from me"). So, what started on the day of Pentecost when believers received the Spirit's permanent indwelling ministry, was a new way of living the Christian life, described as a walk. Walking may not sound that interesting, but there are no glamorous shortcuts in the Christian life. There are no secrets to an instant and permanent spiritual high. It is a long walk that we have to learn. I hope this is helpful because it is basically what we are trying to master on a daily basis. There are other things involved, such as the word, and I'll try to show you where Paul describes the relation of the Spirit and the word. Faith is also involved, and we can show that too. So, in the end there are only two ways to live, and you are either obeying the lusts of your flesh or walking by the Spirit. We'll talk about what that means and hopefully how it is practical.

Print out or take a look at the summary notes on each verse. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE BOOK!

Blessings,
Jeremy
