Shame is defined as having feelings of being unworthy or bad
Guilt means feeling bad (ashamed) about something you did or didn’t do
Shame and guilt are both emotions associated with self anger.
Shame and guilt are natural emotions that tell you there might be a problem and you need to explore the issue further
Shame and guilt both use a lot of energy, keep the HPA-Axis activated but do nothing in themselves to resolve the situation. You cannot change the past
What is the benefit to holding on to shame and guilt?
What might happen if you let it go? Acceptance/growth, self-forgiveness/amends.
Causes and a couple of interventions
Cultural messages (Shoulds)
Who says? Find the facts and develop your own opinion
Why do you care? (Hyperactive Self-Awareness) Find the facts
What would impose this “should” on your child or bff?
Self-esteem issues resulting from failure, rejection, lack of attachment

Attachment teaches we are worthy of love and helps us learn how to handle distress
Check language for personifying and overgeneralizing
