A Simple Faith | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 5, 2023

Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3

There’s a simplicity in the words of the children’s song Jesus Loves Me. Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong. They are weak, but He is strong. When I hear those words I am instantly reminded of how simple but profound this truth is. Jesus loves me, His word is clear. We can rest in Him, knowing that when we are weak He is strong (For my power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9). We can rely on Him with faith like a child.

Why does Jesus make a point to connect one’s faith in Him to that of a childlike nature? Our level of faith needs to be fully trusting and without reservations. When we think of a child reaching up for his or her father, that child fully believes they will be held and kept from falling. There’s no thought of “What if I fall…what if daddy drops me?” It is just a simple faith. There is no doubt. When we come to our Heavenly Father we must exhibit a similar dependence. He won’t let us fall, He’ll never drop us. That is reassuring in a world where everything else fails us. He never will.

Question for today: If I could describe my own faith today, would I call it “childlike”?

Pray: Father give me a confidence in You today that allows me to sing Jesus loves me, this I know.
