When did they start?
Who/what did you learn it (or fail to learn) from
What do you see as the resolution of the behavior and what do you need to do to get there (KSAs)
Create safety (PACER)
Mindfulness
Purposeful action
Learn about… (interpersonal skills, coping)
Identify your triggers for…
Explore past experiences and traumas that may be unresolved and contributing to the distress
Develop distress tolerance skills
Enhance self-esteem
Were often programmed by someone else (family, media)
Tell you what you “should” do, how you “should” feel to get love or how you are inadequate
Increase feelings of guilt, anxiety…
Steps
Create safety (PACER)
Identify the negative program “To be lovable you must be pretty and passive.”
Is this program true? If so why? If not, why not?
Would you want your best friend/child to believe this program?
In what ways does holding this program improve your life?
How does it keep you from having a rich and meaningful life?
Restate the program in a way that is healthy/helpful for you.(Toward thoughts)
