Buy in bulk when possible (Honeyville, Augason Farms, Nuts.com, Starwest-Botanicals) If it is more than you can eat, pair up with people.
Grow your own (Kratky method (LED lights), determinate tomatoes, bush sweet potatoes, hanging planters for strawberries, tabletop hydroponics)
Look for BOGOs
Buy in-season
Pay attention to portion sizes
Make lots of casseroles (shepherds pie, salmon pie, pot pie, chicken and rice, chicken and dumplings with peas)
Use extenders when possible: Brown rice, oats, potatoes
Cook the individual ingredients (except veggies) ahead so you can just combine during the week

Connect with home gardeners or farmers who are willing to sell excess for cheap
