Old Man reacts to two versions of "Workin' Man Blues" by Merle Haggard & Bob Dylan

Both Merle Haggard and Bob Dylan recorded songs essentially named "Workin' Man Blues" 37 years apart. Bob's 2007 classic, which was actually named "Workingman's Blues," has very little in common with Merles #1 Country Hit from 1969, other than one line and the title.

In this, my 100th video on my YouTube channel, I celebrate by reacting to both songs. While Merle's is short, simple and direct, Bob's is long and complex. In fact, I argue that Bob's song is really made up of two songs in one: a beautiful love song wrapped up in a biting commentary on economic hard times.

The Merle video is from a 2013 Marty Stuart TV Show, when Merle was 76 years old, but his voice is as smooth as ever. The Dylan song is the audio track from his 2006 album Modern Times. Since there is no live video of the song that approaches the quality of the studio recording, and the lyrics are complex, I show the lyrics on the screen.

This is the second Merle Haggard song I have reacted to and the 11th Dylan. The other Dylan's, most of which can be found on Rumble, include 3 songs mentioned in this reaction: Tangled up in Blue, Brownsville Girl and I've made up my mind to give myself to you. The other Merle song, "Are the good times really over?" is also on Rumble. Additional Dylan reactions can be found on my YouTube Channel playlist.
