WHY ARE MEN DISAPPEARING FROM COLLEGE?

In the 1970s, there were more men than women in college – but not by much. Approximately 56% of the population was male back then. This changed when the federal government passed Title IX legislation to promote gender equality in education. By 1982, the gender gap in higher education closed.

However, nobody could have expected what happened next: the gender gap began to grow rapidly in the other direction. Women now make up the majority on college campuses, accounting for over 60% of the student body.

This means that the gender education gap is wider today than it was in the 1970s, when the government intervened to raise the proportion of women enrolled in college. Why is this happening and what will be the consequences?
