What You Need to Know About Fluoride | Fluoride Lawsuit Against EPA | DTH Podcast

The highly controversial fluoridation program in the U.S. started in the 1940’s. But despite over 73 percent of the US population being on a fluoridated community water system, tooth decay remains the most prevalent chronic disease in both children and adults, even though it is largely preventable.

Many of the doctors who spoke out against it in the early days were called quacks and shunned.

In 2017 a coalition of fluoride opposition groups including the Fluoride Action Network and the Food & Water Watch filed a landmark lawsuit against the EPA to “protect the public and susceptible subpopulations from the neurotoxic risks of fluoride by banning the addition of fluoridation chemicals to water.”

This lawsuit is still ongoing due to many delays from the EPA,The case recently revealed government attempts to limit available evidence and avoid having the facts of water fluoridation reviewed in court.

There have also been well over 100 studies done since 2015 showing numerous detrimental health issues caused by fluoride including kidney and liver damage, and brittle bones.

More recently a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies by the National Toxicology Program validate that fluoride in low to moderate doses can cause brain-based disorders when exposure is during pregnancy or infancy. Many of those studies were sponsored by the NIH, including a series conducted in Canada.

Today on DTH I have two women involved in the ongoing battle against the EPA we will discussing detail of the suit.

-The landmark studies and health issues associated with fluoride consumption

- What we can do to limit fluoride in our daily lives

Brenda is a named plaintiffs in that ongoing lawsuit against the EPA, calling on the EPA to “protect the public and susceptible subpopulations from the neurotoxic risks of fluoride by banning the addition of fluoridation chemicals to water.”

Karen is a member representative for the Food & Water Watch mentioned on the in the initial filing.
