Mac McClung single-handedly saved the dunk contest. After last year’s terrible performance that many considered the worst in history, the dunk contest lost a lot of popularity. Ever since 2016, where Aaron Gordon and Zach Lavine put on arguably the best performance of all time, the dunk contest just got worse and worse, year after year - to the point where no one was excited anymore. So the NBA decided to bring in Mac McClung to revive the dunk contest. It was incredible! He easily won the dunk contest with one of the best performances ever, got himself attention, got the dunk contest attention, and everyone’s a winner, right? Well, it isn’t as amazing as it seems. I think the NBA used Mac McClung for money, and I will break down how it happened, and what it could mean going forward.
