A bald eagle was rescued by the Connecticut State Police over the weekend after it was found in the median of Interstate 84 on the Tolland-Vernon town line.

Dashcam footage of the incident shows the eagle standing just a few feet away from the left lane of the eastbound side of the highway, into the median area, before a state trooper stopped and slowed traffic in the area at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

A trooper told dispatchers he would need assistance with the downed animal, as it would not even walk.

A state police dispatcher, who also serves as a local animal control officer, responded and was able to safely get the eagle off the highway. The dispatcher could be heard telling a trooper the eagle was trying to bite her as she placed it into a cardboard box.

The eagle was turned over to the Horizon Wings Raptor Rehabilitation in Ashford.
