1 Samuel 13-14 | Should I Rush God's Plan?

In 1 Samuel 13, Saul, the newly crowned king of Israel, was facing a daunting challenge. The Philistines had gathered to fight against Israel with a vast army, including 3,000 chariots and 6,000 charioteers. Saul gathered his army at Gilgal and waited for Samuel to arrive and offer a sacrifice before going into battle. However, Samuel did not come at the appointed time, and Saul became impatient. He decided to take matters into his own hands and offered the sacrifice himself, which was against God's law. Samuel arrived shortly after the sacrifice was offered and rebuked Saul for his disobedience, saying that his kingdom would not endure because he did not keep God's commandment.

In contrast to Saul's impatience, his son Jonathan showed great faith in God's power in 1 Samuel 14. He decided to attack the Philistines with only his armor-bearer by his side. They climbed up a steep cliff toward the enemy outpost, and they killed about 20 soldiers. This caused a panic in the Philistine camp, and their army began to run away. Saul and his troops joined the battle, and the Lord caused great confusion in the Philistine camp, so that they were defeated by the Israelites.

Saul's impatience led him to disobey God's command, while Jonathan's faith in God's power led to a great victory. This contrast highlights the importance of waiting on God's timing and not rushing His plan. When we are impatient and take matters into our own hands, we risk making foolish decisions that can have long-lasting consequences. Instead, we should trust in God's plan and wait for His guidance. By doing so, we can avoid unnecessary mistakes and find ourselves in a place of victory and blessing that only comes through God's grace and provision.
