Easter 2023 - Isaiah 53

The message on April 9, 2023 was on Easter in relation to Isaiah 53. The Passover is defined as (1) as the Jewish festival that includes the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Luke 2.41); (2) in a narrower sense of the actual Passover meal, as ordained in the Old Testament (Mark 14.1); (3) by metonymy, the lamb slain for the Passover meal Passover or Paschal lamb (Mark 14.12a); figuratively, of Christ Jesus in his sacrificial death. In the New Testament that passages containing Passover are Matt. 26:2, 17-19; Mk. 14:1, 12, 14, 16; Lk. 2:41; 22:1, 7-8, 11, 13, 15; Jn. 2:13, 23; 6:4; 11:55; 12:1; 13:1; 18:28, 39; 19:14; Acts 12:4; 1 Cor. 5:7; Heb. 11:28. In 1 Cor. 5:7-8 Paul was saying “… Let us keep the feast”. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. We looked into the Passage Isa. 53:6-9 KJV. The LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Just look at the passages in the New Testament that identifies with this expansion of this thought: 1 John 2:2 … sins of the whole world; 1 Tim. 2:5,6 … ransom for all; 1 Tim. 4:10 …; saviour of all men; John 2:2 … sins of the whole world; John 3:17 … the world through him; John 4:42 … Saviour of the world.

The Scripture reading was from Isaiah 53:1-6 KJV “1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
