David Wilkerson -1931-2011- was an evangelical Christian pastor, author, and evangelist. He was primarily known for his work in New York City during the 1950s, where he ministered to drug addicts and gang members in the inner city.

He founded the Teen Challenge program to help troubled youth and wrote the bestselling book, "The Cross and the Switchblade," which chronicles his experiences in New York City.

He also founded the World Challenge ministry and hosted a weekly radio program called "Realities." He was known for his passionate preaching style and his compassion for those in need.
