Florida Sheriff Says Gun Control Cannot Stop Criminals from Getting Guns

During a press conference on Friday morning, Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods addressed the issue of gun control and crime, acknowledging that there is already a plethora of gun laws in place, but none of them seem to prevent criminals from obtaining guns.

The media seemed to be focusing on the issue of guns, but Sheriff Woods kept shifting the focus back to the individuals responsible for committing crimes. He stated, "Some of you media want to blame the one thing that has no ability or the capacity to commit the crime itself, and that’s the gun. These individuals committed the crime.”

When asked how the suspects in a recent case acquired their gun, Sheriff Woods revealed that the gun was stolen from a car. He pointed out that all the gun laws in place did not prevent the theft, nor did they prevent the suspect from obtaining the gun. He argued that any new gun laws would also be ineffective in stopping criminals from obtaining guns, as "the bad guy’s gonna get a gun no matter what law you have in place.”

Sheriff Woods emphasized the need to hold individuals accountable for their actions, particularly teenagers who are often involved in gun crimes. He criticized school districts for failing to take responsibility for the actions of their students, stating that "our school districts, not just here…school districts across this state and across this nation need to quit minimizing the actions of their students. Hold them accountable. That’s where the failure is.”
