Trump's Foxconn Deal Became Just Another Government Development Debacle

Donald Trump's highly touted deal with Foxconn to build a new electronics manufacturing facility in Wisconsin was quickly revealed to be yet another government development debacle. The Foxconn facility was supposed to create 13,000 jobs, but only 280 have been created as of October 2020. The investment in the facility has ballooned from $10 billion to $14 billion, with no real progress in sight. The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation has already allocated $4.5 billion in tax credits and other incentives, but due to Foxconn's failure to deliver on job creation, only $100 million of those funds have been used.

Further complicating the issue is the fact that Foxconn has now announced that it plans to move much of its production to Mexico, in direct contradiction to the promises that it made to the Trump administration and the people of Wisconsin. This move has been met with widespread criticism and outrage, as it appears to be nothing more than an attempt to save money by relocating workers to places with lower labor costs.
