The idea behind "Boyhood" is very unique and interesting. In fact, there has never been an idea like it. (with taking 12 years to make and being encompassed over 12 years as well). But, despite what the critics have said, that is not the only reason to see the movie.

Even though reviewers almost all liked "Boyhood," the IMDb reviews are much more split. This reviewer totally gets why people don't like or even hate "Boyhood." He or she agrees with some of their complaints and hates how condescendingly they have been stated. No one who liked "Boyhood" for good reasons doesn't want to feel like it's a crime to like it, let alone love it.
