Rakim Mayers was born on October 3rd , 1988 in Harlem, New York City. His first name Rakim – was given to him by his father who was from Barbados – the name was after the hip hop legend Rakim, one half of the Eric B. & Rakim duo.

Rocky started rapping at age eight after the birth of his little sister, Asia. He learned how to rap from his older brother who would make him beats off the kitchen table, Rocky looked up to his big bro who also rocked who the French braids hairdo he would later adopted.

When Rocky was 12 years old, his father went to jail in connection with selling drugs. When he was 13 his brother was shot and killed in Harlem.
