BEFORE Rich Homie Quan took over the radio with his track Flex.
BEFORE he was nominated at the BET Hip Hop Awards in a string of categories, including Rookie Of The Year and best Mixtape.
BEFORE there was speculation about him being Bae or Hubby with Young Thug would raise a few eye brows.

Growing up young Lamar was a painfully shy kid and would split his time between living with his mother, father and grandmother all over Atlanta Georgia. Growing up the kid loved to read and he stll does today. He had his mind set on a career as a professional baseball player and was moving in that direction until his passion for making music took over. A career that almost never happened when he was sent to prison for 15 months on burglary charges.

My name is Michael McCrudden documenting the life of Rich Homie Quan prior to fame, here for you on Before They Were Famous.

Rich Homie Quan was born Lamar Dequantes on October 4, 1989 in Atlanta Georigia. The oldest of three kids Lamar and his siblings would bounce around between his separated parents homes. From Decatur to Gresham to College Park.

Lamar was fond of literature his favorite author James Patterson. He didn’t spend his entire childhood with his nose in the books – he would also start playing sports on the street and took a particular interest in baseball.

He also took an interest in music with early favorite being Hot Boys, JT Money, and Lil Wayne’s The Block Is Hot. It wasn’t all rap though, he also like Blues and became a big fan of The Temptations. He started making music on his own in the 11 grade but didn’t think of it as anything more than a hobby.
