TikTok ban won't keep US safe, says Julia Angwin Bipartisan Criticism of Chinese Company

The RESTRICT Act, which would allow the federal government to potentially ban technology from nations the US views as adversaries, including China, has been introduced by a bipartisan group of senators. Congressmen probed TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew on the app's ties to the Chinese government, its data policies, and its implications on children's mental health during a five-hour hearing last Thursday. Critics claim that similar privacy concerns regarding the usage of U.S.-owned apps and social media platforms are largely ignored by this China-specific investigation. We hear more from investigative journalist Julia Angwin, a contributor to The New York Times' opinion page, whose most recent guest piece is titled "How to Fix the TikTok Problem."
