Mulch is an important part to garden effectively. Mulch helps to retain moisture and protect the soil from the sun. Some people say not to mulch with pine needles for fear of changing the soil pH making the soil more acidic. I have had pine needles around the garden area for more than 30 years. When I performed a soil test the pH was neutral at 7.
