Welcome to our video on the 1995 to pence coin and its value at recent Heritage auction Heritage auctions is one of the world's leading auction houses specializing in Rare Coins Stamps and other Collectibles recently they held an auction featuring a 1995 to pence coin this particular coin is unique because it features a rare error instead of the usual new Pence inscription it has the old to Pence inscription which was used on coins mitted before 1982. to understand why this error is significant we need to go back in time to the 1970s in 1971 the UK decimalized its currency replacing the old system of pounds Shillings and Pence with the new system based on 100 Pence to the pound the new coins that were minted featured the inscription new Pence to distinguish them from the older coins however in 1982 the royal men decided to drop the new Pence inscription and revert to the old dupense inscription on the two pence coins this meant that any two pence coins minute after 1982 should have the two pence inscription but somehow in 1995 a batch of two pence coins was struck with the old two pence inscription instead of the new new Pence inscription this error was quickly noticed and the coins were withdrawn from circulation but a few of them made it out into the world and they have since become highly sought after by collectors at the recent Heritage auction one of these rare air coins was sold for an impressive seven thousand two hundred dollars that's a huge increase in value compared to its face value of just two pence so if you happen to have a 1995 two pence coin with the old two pence inscription you could be sitting on a valuable piece of History who knows it might even be worth more than you think thanks for watching
