Former President Donald Trump’s indictment in New York City is a “sad day for American justice” and should be dismissed on legal grounds, according to legal analyst, Paul Kamenar.

Kamenar is the lead counsel for the National Legal and Policy Center. He joins Larry Elder to discuss the Trump indictment.

The charges brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg are based on a “thin” case that seeks to single out Trump, Kamenar says, adding that the charges appear to be politically motivated. The indictment, which alleges that Trump’s company and its CFO committed multiple counts of fraud, is likely to interfere with the 2024 presidential campaign. Kamenar also criticizes Bragg for “weaponizing” law enforcement to target political enemies, and suggested that the charges should be dismissed on legal and selective prosecution grounds.

Joining Larry Elder to discuss the issue is Kevin Freeman, founder and CEO of Freeman Global Holdings and a New York Times bestselling author.

Freeman argues that the development is a threat to the United States, and that the Biden administration is contributing to the problem through excessive spending.

“I do not want to see the dollar fail, but I’m afraid we’re watching other countries that are working hard to make that happen,” he said, “and then you look to Washington, and it looks like the current administration is working to make that happen as well.”

Freeman suggests that to shore up confidence in the dollar, the U.S. needs to become energy independent, reduce regulation and excess spending, and move services back to the United States. He also expresses concerns about China’s accounting practices and economic interests.
