SKIP TO 03:38 - SPECIMEN Maxillaria variabilis gets a bit of a much needed grooming. This Maxillaria variabilis is getting to 5 years old and weighs 15kgs/33lbs. Across, it measures 80 cm / 31 inches and although compact in it's growth, has a total height from the surface of the pot to the top most growth of 60cm / 23 inches. Those are the current stats of Cousin Itt, which is what my Maxillaria variabilis is called on The Patio. So, if you are looking to see how big does a maxillaria variabilis get? There is your answer. Today we are just cleaning up around the base of the orchitop, removing maiden hair fern, which has naturalized and can get out of hand very quickly. I usually do this clean up 3x / year, just to keep the maiden hair fern from taking over.
