DAY17: INTO THE FIELD- Matthew 9:36-38- “The Field is Right For Harvest …”

Welcome back. Great is Hos faithfulness.

Matthew 9:36-38

"A Plentiful Harvest"

36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were [a]weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Our Lord does not condemn sinners, instead He seems them as "LOST SHEEP" - lost sheep that need to be found and brought home, at HOME IN CHRST. COMPASSION means also"suffering with", our Lord suffers with us when we are lost like a little sheep and when our afflictions become too great. Our Lord using the illustration of SHEEP HAVING NO SHEPHERD, is an example of an accusation against the Jewish leaders of His time that should have been good shepherds instead acted like wolves.

THE HARVEST is referring to an abundance of those who are ready and willing to accept the Kingdom of God. Jesus our Lord is both the SOWER AND THE LORD OF THE HARVEST. His disciples are sent not to SOW, but to REAP what He had sown by the prophets. The numbers sent to harvest is seen as less important than what power they go into the harvest.

"When Jesus walked through the crowds, He saw more than dirty faces and broken bodies. He saw His workmanship- the masterpieces He'd woven together in mother's wombs and secret places -(Psalm 139:13-15). He saw the image and glory of God -(1 Corinthians 11:7). It was out of His intimate knowledge and boundless compassion that Jesus spoke of the plentiful harvest and the workers needed to reap lost souls.
