1. Jay-Z couldn't get any record label to sign him. Life in the Brooklyn Marcy Projects was certainly a hard knock life. He dropped out of school, was selling crack and had been shot three times.

He knew music was all he wanted to do with his life but he couldn't get anyone to take notice of his first CD, so what did he do? He began selling his CD 'out of the boot of his car' – the dude is now listed to have a net worth upwards of $650 Million.

2. J. K. Rowling was pretty much penniless, suffering from depression and was a single divorcee raising a child on welfare while she attended school and penned her Harry Potter series.

In a span of only five years she became one of the richest women in the world with a net worth of over $1 Billion dollars. I mean Disney even built Hogwarts, they owe her $50 Million for that at least.

3. Coming in at number 3 we have two comedians. Jim Carrey and Jerry Seinfeld. Both these two men were booed off the stage horrifically when they first tried their hand at stand up. Jim Carrey was only a pubescent teen and was cruelly yanked off the stage by a giant hook.

Well these two studs would go on to rule the 90's and are still making people laugh, with the exception of Jim Carrey's ex girlfriend. Ouch!

4. Actress Carey Mulligan was rejected from every single drama school she applied to. An auditor at Drama Center London told her to be a "children's TV show presenter" instead.
The good thing about working for children, you will have fans for the next 20 years.

Persistence paid off and Carry Mulligan would go on to star in WALL STREET MONEY NEVER DIES, DRIVE and THE GREAT GATSBY where Leo was almost creepy obsessed.
