Dr Gabrielle Lyon podcast

Most weight-loss RESISTANT people:
-spend 99% time on diet side
-constantly trying to eat less calories
-NEVER tap into exercise lever
SIMPLE PLAN
1-wake up: walk 1 hour on treadmill
-super slow, comfortable at first
2-progressively OVERLOAD that
-a little faster; little steeper
End up with extremely high calorie burn
-automatically MATCH intake with burn

Probably eat SAME calories...
-but are burning more [modest effort]
-will lose weight
Herman Pontzer research found:
-everyone, everywhere eats about the
same amount of calories
over time
[2700 to 2900 a day]
"If try to eat less; cannot...in long term"
DIFFERENCE?
US male: 198#. Hadza male: 139#
-with less than HALF BODYFAT %]

DIFFERENCE...
-US male: 4000 steps a day
and 4 minutes exercise
-Hadza male: 20,000 steps a day
and 4 hours exercise
"You basically eat SAME amount...
and: 1-sit on couch and store fat
or: 2-walking it off each day
Got to get to point of trade-off:
-exercise calories off; or
-sit an have calories stored as body fat

HARD to get STARTED on exercise...
-when already so overweight
-already burning calories while sitting
"Cost of starting exercise is HUGE"
Practically, must start on diet side first
-once a little bit of weight reduced...
-then have more ENERGY to exercise
"Slowly, smoothly lose some weight;
start some exercise [modest effort]...
Long term, keep exercising at high
level, or will regain weight"
