Meet Brenna. She has hyperthyroidism.

Brenna is one of our rescues. We're not sure how old Brenna is but my guess is that she's around 5 or 6 and could even be older. We call her the baby because she's our littlest cat and because she loves to be held and carried around like a baby. She even puts her head on our shoulder! She's just so adorable!

Since Brenna has come to live with us (I think it's been 3 or 4 years now) she's been on a raw food diet. She's always been wiry, a bit crazy and thin. We wondered why she was always thinner than our other cats.

Brenna has hyperthyroidism and is the reason why she's thin. She's been to the vet and a vet specialist, and we even had a phone consultation with Dr. Gerry Buchoff at Holistic Pet Care in Little Falls, NJ (www.holisticpetcarenj.com), all of whom recommended Radioactive Iodine Therapy. I've also done some research on hyperthyroidism in cats and almost everyone recommends it. We almost had the procedure done but we had to cancel. I'm glad we did.

To make a long story short, Brenna was on thyroid medication prescribed by a vet for a couple of years. But now she's taking BestLife4Pets Hyperthyroid Weight Support for Cats (www.bestlife4pets.com) and has been on it for about a month or a little longer. From what I read about it, it's homeopathic medicine, and it seems to be helping. I've noticed that Brenna is not pacing like she used to and she seems to be able to sleep better. She also doesn't drink as much water. In fact, I rarely see her at the water bowl fountain. She still has her playful and crazy moments and is the world's best lap cat. We'll see how she does as time goes on but for now, Brenna seems to be doing well and is content.
