Representatives from Energy for a Secure Future, a gas-industry backed coalition, and Indigenous leaders hold a news conference on Parliament Hill to call for more collaboration between Indigenous groups, the Canadian government and international partners concerning the export of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The group is calling on the G7 to make LNG trade with Canada a priority. Shannon Joseph (chair of Energy for a Secure Future), Crystal Smith (chief councillor, Haisla Nation), Karen Ogen (CEO, First Nations LNG Alliance), Chief Billy Morin (managing director, Axxcelus), and John Desjarlais (executive director, Indigenous Resource Network) speak at the news conference. The coalition is also advocating for Indigenous groups to play a greater role in Canada’s LNG infrastructure and exportation.
