LAVERNE COX | Before They Were Famous | 2016 Biography
Before Lavern Cox became the first black transgendered woman to grace the cover of TIME magazine in 2014, and be nominated for a Primetime Emmy award.

Lavern was born in Alabama and identified as a girl from an early age without any problems. That is until her teachers and peers started to bully her for being different. Tormented for years and chased home after school and beaten, one day Lavern decided life wasn’t worth living, and swallowed a bottle of pills when she was only 11.
