Tara, along with her coworker Ron, has been assisting Dr. Albert Wainwright in his quest to capture and prove the existence of ghosts. Their current assignment is the Malone estate, where the ghosts of Steven and Marsha Malone are said to still haunt the premises. Wainwright has become increasingly obsessed with the task, going so far as to bring in a psychic named Rosalind Sarno.

During their investigation, Rosalind detects a strong presence. However, while filming, Tara's camcorder suddenly cuts off, and Wainwright instructs her to switch to the 16mm camera. They observe Steven throw Marsha's apparition down the stairwell and strangle her from behind.
Wainwright insists on continuing to film, despite Rosalind's objections, as Steven is aggravated by the filming. Wainwright leaves to have the film developed immediately.

The team exit the house to make a grim discovery: Wainwright is d3ad with the exposed film wrapped tightly around his neck. The case remains a mystery, but Tara suspects the malevolent spirit of Steven Malone is responsible.
