Tennessee Republicans Purge Democrats Advocating For Gun Laws

Tennessee State Rep. Justin Jones and two other Democrats are at risk of being expelled from the state legislature for speaking out in support of gun control measures. The three lawmakers have been stripped of their committee assignments and their member IDs have been deactivated.
Jones joined demonstrators in the Tennessee State Capitol on Thursday, saying that "the voice of the people will never be silenced...this is what democracy looks like."

The Republican-controlled legislature has been reluctant to pass any new gun control measures in the wake of recent mass shootings. In February, a gunman killed four people at a Waffle House in Nashville.

The issue of gun control is a polarizing one in Tennessee, and it is unclear whether the legislature will take any action on the issue before the end of the session.
