Canada: Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly comments as Finland joins NATO – April 4, 2023

Foreign Affairs Ministers Mélanie Joly speaks briefly with reporters in Brussels, Belgium, where she is attending the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)'s two-day meeting of foreign ministers. She comments on Finland becoming the 31st member of the security alliance. Finland's NATO membership comes amid Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Sweden has also applied to join NATO, but its bid has been held up by Turkey and Hungary. On July 5, 2022, Canada was the first country to ratify Finland and Sweden's requests to join NATO.
