Albany Democrats are pushing for legislation that would allow Donald Trump’s trial to be televised if it is approved in the new state budget.

Currently, New York is one of two states that prohibit broadcasts from trial courtrooms, the New York Post is reporting.

State Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Brad Hoylman-Sigal (D-Manhattan) is sponsoring the bill and said at a Sunday press conference that “as the media capital of the world — and the venue for the arraignment of Donald Trump — we must change this outdated law to allow the public to witness trials.”

The proposal, included in the state’s pending budget plan, would take effect 90 days after becoming law. Trump’s trial is not expected to begin for several months.
