Rabbits have long tubular ears (the length of the ear is several times the width of the ear), a short tufted tail, and muscular hind legs that are much longer than the forelimbs. There are 43 species in 9 genera. East Asia, South Africa, Africa, and North America have the most species, and a few species are distributed in Europe and South America. Some species are widely distributed or have been introduced to many regions, while many species are very limited in distribution. Terrestrial, more common in deserts, desertified grasslands, tropical forests, steppes and forests or woods.
