Brake Caliper Mounts & Rebuild - Tracked Amphibious Vehicle Build Ep. 4

Converting this shortened LADA VAZ 2101 rear axle from drum to disc brakes - this axle will be used as a skid steering / brake-differential steering unit on the tracked amphibious all terrain vehicle that I'm fabricating at the moment. No welding was needed for the actual mounts of the brake supports although I managed to turn one half axle smaller in diameter than needed and had to MIG weld some steel on it and turn it again so it would fit the brake rotor of 2001 1.9 D Peugeot Partner. Brake rotors have cooling fins in them so hopefully they will not get burnt that fast when using the steering brakes on this vehicle. It was cheaper to rebuild these brakes rather than buying completely new ones. This axle & brakes unit will be coupled with tractor PTO parts to transmit power to the rear wheels that drive the tracks. By doing so I can position this differential more freely inside the tub of the tracked amphibious ATV which leaves me more options with the frame and body design. I do have the half axles I salvaged from the Peugeot Partner but I want to use one of them as a prop shaft which leaves me with only one good half axle. Also the CV joints can only be set on an angle so far and the axles can't really be modified in length that easily compared to the tractor PTO parts. Stay tuned for next video in this series next Friday same time and feel free to subscribe. Cheers!
