4x4 PTO Driven Timber Trailer BUILD Ep.9 - Tandem Axle Completed

Turning rusty hexagonal steel bar into adapter bolts in the old trusty 1k62 lathe for the BMW E39 differential back plate since I cut off the original diff mounts in a previous episode. Cutting outer threads and drilling the bolts in the lathe but hand threading the inner threads. The original BMW bolts fit the adapters that make it possible to install the diff to a flat axle back plate I cut out on the homemade CNC plasma table (made by me and my friend @blackloopcnc9415 ). At the workshop I'm using FreeCAD drawing software, it is free and easy to use if you've had previous experience in other CAD programs. SheetCAM is my go-to program for converting CAD files into G-code that then gets used to cut out all the parts on the DIY CNC plasma. While making the BMW diff back plate I mess up the hole pattern and revisit the plasma cutter's hand torch and modify the freshly cut plate. The result is as expected - rough and ugly. I'm mocking up the axle so I can take measurements for the side plates for the bearing blocks. I have my reservations when it comes to these bearings - I guess these will be the first parts to fail and have to be replaced with something more reliable in the future. After the side plates are cut and tack welded I'm making a tubular frame from rusty rectangular tubing that gets cut to size on the cold cut circular saw / wet saw. After getting the tube frame done and the front of the diff mounted the axle is ready to slide front to back for load balancing purposes and for reducing tongue weight of the trailer. The tandem axle position will be adjustable with hydraulic cylinder mounted in between the frame rails. But all of that in the future videos. Stay tuned for the next episode & thanks for watching!
