"Are you not offended that you are being evicted?" we ask the "servant of God" on the territory of the monastery of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, one of the holiest, most ancient, and sacral Orthodox monasteries in Ukraine. "No, we are even glad. There will be a greater reward from God."

Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the official administrator of one of the holiest Orthodox shrines in Ukraine — Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra — warned the Ukrainian Orthodox Church that its monks and priests should leave the monastery by March, 29th. Ukrainian Orthodox Church (which before 2014 had "Moscow patriarchate" attached to its name) has recently been marred in scandals in Ukraine – starting from its allegedly "pro-Russian" position and ending with pedophilia accusations. After the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a number of the priests of the UOC as they allegedly were gathering intel for the Russian military and FSB. Also, the Security Service of Ukraine carried out searches in churches and monasteries belonging to the UOC.

In December, the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture decided not to prolong the free lease of the buildings of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra to the UOC. And in March — Ministry asked UOC to leave the premises of that ancient monastery. On March, 29th the commission of the Ministry of Culture was to inspect the monastery. However, pro-UOC activists did not let the commission inside the buildings. Moreover, people supporting the "eviction" of UOC and calling it a "Muscovite church" showed up.

Watch our video to find out what happened and why the commission was unable to enter one of the most ancient monasteries in Ukraine.
