This largely outcasted an ostracised Japanese-American unit in World War 2 managed to pull off something no other unit could. They were the most decorated in US military history, with the men of the regiment earning a total of 9428 Purple Hearts, 4000 Bronze Stars, 8 Presidential Unit citations and 21 medals of honour. They were involved in all facets of the European theatre and in 2012 every surviving member of the unit was awarded the Légion d’Honnuer for their actions contributing to the liberation of France.
