The Revelation of the Wicked in Matthew 23:13-39

God allows the righteous to be persecuted for two reasons (among others):

1) Trials refine his people like silver, removing the dross and preparing them for some future mission.
2) God gives people opportunities to reveal their true selves. The wicked let the death in their hearts come to the surface and the righteous let their lights shine.

Don't be afraid of persecution. Don't seek it out, but welcome it when it comes, because it means that God is refining you and preparing to judge the wicked.
