Here is the list of items that you’ll need:

LIST OF INGREDIENTS FOR SAUCE

1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil
1 large onion coarsely chopped
3 pints cherry or grape tomatoes halved
2 teaspoons salt (Kosher preferably for sauce)
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flake
1 teaspoon coarse black pepper
8 tablespoons unsalted butter (1/4 pound)
4 to 5 cloves of fresh garlic (coarsely chopped)
½ cup of saved pasta water
¼ cup of fresh chopped basil

INGREDIENTS FOR PASTA

1 pound fettuccini or spaghetti pasta
4 quarts of water for pasta
½ cup salt for pasta water (Kosher preferably)
A good general rule of thumb for salting pasta water is two tablespoons of salt for every quarter of water...or one-half cup of salt per gallon of water.

And also remember, only add salt to boiling water. That way your pot won’t become pockmarked by the corrosivity of the salt.
