Drone footage reveals collapsed theater roof, destruction across Belvidere following deadly storms

At least one person was killed and dozens of others were injured after the roof of a theater collapsed in Belvidere on Friday night after severe storms ripped through the town.

Footage filmed on Saturday shows the aftermath of the extreme weather including the collapsed roof and destroyed façade of the Apollo Theater, while numerous other buildings across town could also be seen destroyed or damaged.

"The most notable damage was the Apollo Theater. There was a concert going on during the tornado, and the roof collapsed. There were about 200 people inside, and multiple injuries", said Dan Zaccardi, Emergency Management Director Boone County.

"We transported 28 injuries by ambulance. There was one fatality. There are some people who are still in the hospital. Some are serious, and some have been released", Zaccardi added.

The roof of the sold-out venue collapsed as a tornado traveled across parts of Ogle, Winnebago and Boone counties, with peak winds of 160 km/h (100 miles/h) according to the National Weather Service.
