Chengdu's Qiyi City Forest Garden pilot project in the Chinese metropolis of Chengdu appeared in 2018.

It was to be a unique example of green living, with large manicured gardens on every balcony, designed to give plants enough room to grow. Twenty species of plants had to cope with smog and street noise and turn the facades of buildings into a vertical forest.

Unfortunately, the vegetation began to attract a huge number of mosquitoes, which scared off buyers - without them, the gardens began to grow, rot and almost completely swallowed up the balconies, so the project still needs to be finalized.
