“A Man Called Peter”
1st in our series the Epistle of 2nd Peter

His Calling - Mark 1:14-18
* Jesus began His ministry calling upon everyone to repent
* Simon had been previously introduced to Jesus by his brother Andrew - John 1:40-42
* Jesus gave Simon a new name - petros = small stone
* This is in contrast to the boulder on which Jesus will build His church -  Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 2:20
* That boulder will conquer the whole world - Daniel 2:34-35; 40-45
* The message of repentance deeply resonated with Simon & Andrew so they left all to follow Jesus

His Honored Position - Mark 9:1-4
* In the inner circle of the three closest to Jesus
* Often a spokesman for the other 11 disciples
* Impulsive, at times rash
* First standing in the lists of the disciples

His Tragic Fall - Mark 14:66-72
* The situation was admittedly hazardous for the disciples
* The question of a mere servant girl sends him over the edge
* The oaths he swore where a deep betrayal of Jesus Christ
* The second rooster crow brought him to repentance

His Restoration 
* Personal resurrection appearance to Simon - Luke 24:34
* Jesus asks probing restorative questions - John 21:14-19
* Peter is completely restored and becomes powerful in advancing the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ
* Peter is the leading evangelist Apostle in Acts 1-12
* To him was committed by our Lord the Gospel to be taken to the circumcised - Galatians 2:7-9
