Judges 3-5 is a section of the Old Testament book of Judges that recounts a cycle of sin, oppression, repentance, and deliverance in the history of Israel. In Judges 3, the chapter lists the nations that the Israelites failed to drive out of the land, and how this led to intermarriage with them and worship of their gods. This caused God to raise up oppressors, including the Moabite king Eglon and the king of Mesopotamia. God then raised up Ehud, a deliverer, who assassinated Eglon and led the Israelites to victory over the Moabites.

Judges 4 tells the story of another oppressor, Jabin the king of Canaan, and his general Sisera, who had 900 iron chariots. God raised up a woman named Deborah as a judge and prophetess who called upon a man named Barak to lead the Israelite army against Sisera. Although initially reluctant, Barak agreed to go to battle, and with God's help, the Israelites emerged victorious. However, Sisera fled and was eventually killed by a woman named Jael.

Judges 5 is known as the Song of Deborah, a poetic celebration of God's deliverance and the Israelites' victory over Sisera. The song praises God for his faithfulness and describes how various tribes and individuals played a role in the battle. It also includes a vivid description of Jael's treacherous killing of Sisera.

In summary, Judges 3-5 illustrates how disobedience and idolatry led to Israel's oppression. Nevertheless, when the Israelites cried out for help, God raised up deliverers to rescue them. Deborah's leadership and the role of women in the story challenge traditional gender roles and highlight the importance of faith and courage in the face of adversity.
