Jeans can be dangerous to wear in the mountains for a few reasons:
Lack of protection: Jeans are made of cotton denim which is not designed for outdoor activities such as hiking or mountaineering. They provide little to no protection from the elements and can easily get wet and heavy when exposed to moisture, making it difficult to regulate body temperature.
Restricted movement: Jeans are often tight-fitting and can restrict your movements when you are climbing or hiking, which can lead to accidents or falls. This can be especially dangerous on steep terrain or when scrambling on rocks.
Hypothermia: Jeans provide little insulation and can be a poor choice in cold or wet weather conditions. If you get wet, either from sweat or rain, the wet jeans can cause hypothermia, a potentially life-threatening condition in which the body's core temperature drops too low.
Therefore, it is recommended to wear appropriate outdoor clothing made of moisture-wicking and breathable materials that are designed for outdoor activities in the mountains, such as hiking pants or technical pants.
