(The System of) Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether by The Alan Parsons Project ~ Our World is Upside Down

From the first album of The Alan Parsons Project (Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson), Tales of Mystery and Imagination, Edgar Allan Poe, comes one of their finest songs, and one of Poe's best Short Stories...

(The System of) Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether...

The story where an unnamed Fool enters into the Maison de Sante, in Southern France, a Sanitarium for the Clinically diagnosed as 'Insane'...the narrator is excited to witness the effects of Monsieur Mallard's infamous treatment of the clinically insane, known as The System of Soothing...Monsieur Mallard being the Head Physician at the Maison de Sante...

However, upon his visit, something doesn't sit right with the Narrator, as something seems OFF with the Patients, who are encouraged to become anything that they wish to become, including even Chickens and Pumpkins...there are mostly Wombmen patients, who are scantily dressed and promiscuous, as well...but it is Monsieur Mallard who seems the most 'Off' of the bunch, as he has recently abandoned his technique of The System of Soothing, for a New, Reckless approach whereby Reality becomes obfuscated by the individual's desire to become anything they wish, leaving the Sanitorium with a feeling of Crazed Insanity...

And as the Narrator discovers, when all of the Sanitorium Guards and Attendants finally break Free of their bindings and remove all the Feathers that had been Tarred to them, Monsieur Mallard was nothing more than a Fraud, one of the Diseased Patients who had taken over the Sanitorium just hours earlier...

Thus, the Moral to Poe's Brilliant Allegory is that we Live in a World where we have the Inmates Running the Asylum, where nothing feels Right anymore, as the Truth becomes a Lie and where Reality becomes obfuscated by all of the False Beliefs and Lies that the 'Inmates' hold on to...

Edgar Allan Poe was describing OUR World, where everything was fast becoming a Lie, and the World, Upside Down...and note how Poe used the name 'Mallard' for the Head of the Sanitarium, as Mallard is a type of Duck, and one could construe that Poe meant that Mallard and his 'Theories' of Mental Health made him a QUACK...
